Vendor Spotlight: Somersault Letter Press

Vendor Spotlight: Somersault Letter Press

I love what I do and when I meet a great vendor or great idea that has to do with parties, and particularly, weddings I get super excited.  Combine that with learning of a cool product and vendor that has moved and settled right into Jim Thorpe, well you can imagine!

The wedding business is mostly, by nature, an area that is ruled by small and often creative entrepreneurs.  With exception of outfits like David’s Bridal and Men’s Warehouse that are large chains, most of the people you book for your wedding consider themselves artists and are often one-man (or woman) operations.  In a day of mass production, that’s a pretty awesome thing. Weddings and parties are places where people like to let their personality shine and that is only often done through finding unique, rather than mass produced, items for your event.

With that in mind,  I’m excited to introduce you to a pretty awesome business that offers unique and hand crafted products to make your wedding or just any event all the more memorable.

Vendor Spotlight: Visual Grammar 216

Posted in: Vendor Spotlight

The Mauch Chunk Ballroom recently played host to the Fifth Annual Burlesque Festival’s Vending Bazaar. The Bazaar featured hand crafted and unique items, popular within the Burlesque culture.

I was impressed with the items I saw displayed. Any of these vendor’s items could easily be utlized by couples to enhance either their or their bridal parties attire.  Over the next few weeks I will be featuring these vendors work with contact information in my Vendor Spotlight series.

This week, I’m featuring

How to Avoid Those Photobombing Smart Phones & Tablets at Your Wedding

Recently a post came through on my facebook feed from a fellow wedding professional in the area.  It was a videopgrapher that was furiously at work editing one of his latest wedding videos.  He was so aggrevated, he stopped and posted a screen shot of exactly what was irritating him.  Can you guess what it is ?  I’m sure the title gives it away, but here is the screen shot below:

Ceremony Locations in Jim Thorpe

Ceremony Locations in Jim Thorpe

I have always said that Jim Thorpe was a destination wedding location close to home.  The town, which was voted one of the  the top 5  most beautiful small towns in America in 2012  and one of the top 5 most fun small towns in American 2013   by Best of the Road, has so much to offer not only couples, but the guests that come to your wedding.  But, beyond picturesque and quaint, Jim Thorpe also has  some very unique ceremony locations. Most are within walking distance of the Mauch Chunk Ballroom.  Here is some info with pics and cost (where available to me) for each.

What Does a Vendor Referral Really Mean?

What Does a Vendor Referral Really Mean?

There has been many conversations going on in my wedding professional circles about referrals (or preferred vendors, as its sometimes called) ; what they mean to each of us, what criteria we use to choose them, and about those  “paid” referrals.   Strangely, there seems to be both a general concensus and some confusion about what a referral is and should be.  So, I wanted to do a blog to clarify referrals to couples, so that they may have a better understanding of just what it means when a vendor gives them one and how to differentiate between referrals born out of experience with a vendor from paid referrals.

Vendor Spotlight: Rendon House

Vendor Spotlight: Rendon House

This month, on my Vendor Spotlight, I wanted to highlight one of the many B&B’s that we have in town for two reasons;  The first, it’s absolutely beautiful , the second is that not only is it available as a B&B but is currently on the market for sale !  Yup, you can purchase your own slice of Jim Thorpe and own this beautiful gem!

Many of the couples that come to the Ballroom to get married are from other locations in PA or the tri-state area and they are attracted to our venue and our town because of how beautiful and romantic it is (how could Victorian architecture not be romantic?).  So, naturally, many of their guests will be arriving from other destinations and are looking for some places right in town to stay.  The Rendon House is literally right in the middle of town steps away from the Mauch Chunk Ballroom and all the other historic landmarks in the area.

There are three rooms available for guests inside the home,  each with their own bathroom and named after a former occupant of the home. Rates are $95 to   $125/night depending on the season  and comes complete with a three course sit-down breakfast.  Yum!  Rendon House is also Vegan friendly.

Because it is listed for sale, there is a beautiful Virtual Tour of the B&B that you can look at at the Realtor’s site below.  For more information or to book a reservation call 570-325-5515 or visit their website

If you’re interested in possibly purchasing the B&B, please visit Keller Williams Realty Listing.

The Rendon House is located at 80 Broadway.

Want to turn your wedding into a weekend of adventure? Why not consider Jim Thorpe and the Beautiful Mauch Chunk Ballroom for your nuptials!  To schedule an appointment to view the space and for a free wedding planning consultation call 484-629-5070.
