Indeed, Jim Thorpe is a small town. But even in small towns there are very few places you can go where a chain store isn’t an “anchor” of the town or its landscape. But , Jim Thorpe is different. Every major business in our small town is truly a Mom & Pop (Subway is nationally known, but as a franchise that is individually owned, still counts!). Even our largest hotel is family owned and operated, the Inn at Jim Thorpe. Just about the ONLY operation in town that can be considered a large chain is the Turkey Hill Gas Station. That doesn’t just apply to the tourist side of town either, because all the business on the other side of town are also individually owned including Jim Thorpe Market, a grocery store just over the bridge.
So, in our new video blog (vlog) series counting down the top 10 reasons to book a wedding in Jim Thorpe, here is our first installment and our #10 Reason to Book a Wedding in Jim Thorpe: You’re helping to support Mom & Pops.
I love what I do and when I meet a great vendor or great idea that has to do with parties, and particularly, weddings I get super excited. Combine that with learning of a cool product and vendor that has moved and settled right into Jim Thorpe, well you can imagine!
The wedding business is mostly, by nature, an area that is ruled by small and often creative entrepreneurs. With exception of outfits like David’s Bridal and Men’s Warehouse that are large chains, most of the people you book for your wedding consider themselves artists and are often one-man (or woman) operations. In a day of mass production, that’s a pretty awesome thing. Weddings and parties are places where people like to let their personality shine and that is only often done through finding unique, rather than mass produced, items for your event.
With that in mind, I’m excited to introduce you to a pretty awesome business that offers unique and hand crafted products to make your wedding or just any event all the more memorable.
I have always said that Jim Thorpe was a destination wedding location close to home. The town, which was voted one of the the top 5 most beautiful small towns in America in 2012 and one of the top 5 most fun small towns in American 2013 by Best of the Road, has so much to offer not only couples, but the guests that come to your wedding. But, beyond picturesque and quaint, Jim Thorpe also has some very unique ceremony locations. Most are within walking distance of the Mauch Chunk Ballroom. Here is some info with pics and cost (where available to me) for each.
