I met Cassie and Rob early in the spring of this year. They had originally wanted to do an outdoor wedding on their beautiful farm property in Walnutport. But, as does sometimes happen with outdoor receptions, they were overwhelmed with all that is involved in having an off-site outdoor event. Not only that, the time of year, November, might be just a little too chilly for what they had in mind. So, the couple came up with another idea; on location ceremony at their barn on their property and a beautiful reception at the Mauch Chunk Ballroom only minutes from their farm. And, they came to the right venue because not only was I able to provide them with service at the Ballroom, my staff and I also have experience working off-site ceremonies. As a matter of fact, we’ve done it a few times before.
Cassie & Rob spent months leading up to their wedding cleaning up the 200 year old barn and decorating it with lights to give it a cozy feeling. They put their own amazing little touches into the decor, including displaying her grandmothers quilts that she made over the years, by hand, on one of the walls. To keep guests warm and cozy hot coffee and hot apple cider were served along with beer and soda. The bride’s Aunt Susan made the delicious homemade cookies. Our wedding planner, Tara, was on hand to run the rehearsal the day before as well as help put the final touches on all the decorative details. The day of, Tara coordinated all the events associated with the ceremony, first look, family photos and lining up the bridal party for the processional and cueing everyone. Staff was on hand to keep the refreshments going and to clean and close up the ceremony location after the wedding party headed to the Ballroom.
The ceremony festivities lasted about 2 hours before the party made their way to Jim Thorpe to the Ballroom. The couple did join their guests for cocktail hour, but not before taking some beautiful (and fun) photos around Jim Thorpe. My most favorite among them is the beautiful night shot they got up at Irwin’s Castle, a very cool site right off Broadway in Jim Thorpe that many don’t know is there, but that I’m always sure to clue my couples in because of the amazing photo opportunity it offers.
The decor at the Ballroom followed through the elegant country decor of their barnyard ceremony . The couple chose Ivory linens tied with Ivory sashes. The table was set with burlap runners (made by the Bride’s Mom). Mason jars and other votive candles were used to illuminate and wood cut from their farm was used as the focal point for the flowers. The table numbers and Mr & Mrs , cut out of wood, were hand burned by a family member. The bride used her bridesmaids bouquet as centerpieces for some of the guests tables, and her own beautiful bouquet as the floral for their sweetheart table (a great way to save money without sacrificing aestethics) . Their wedding cake, provided by Icing on the Cake, was a “naked cake” beautifully decorated with fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and fall colored flower pedals. Cassie made jars of pickles & jalepenos for her guests from what she grew on their farm.
All the guests had an amazing time with music, uplighting and gobo lighting provided by Stevie Ray Entertainment.
Thank you Cassie & Rob for not only trusting us with your reception, but coordination and staffing of your off-site, on location barnyard ceremony. We’d also like to thank these amazing vendors. It was a pleasure working with you.
