Recently the Mauch Chunk Ballroom was contacted by the Army National Guard Yellow Ribbon Program. They were looking for a place in the area to hold one of many Yellow Ribbon Events that take place throughout not only the state of Pennsylvania, but other states as well. They needed a space that provided use of a sound system and projection screen for their slide presentations, as well as provide a breakfast and lunch spread on a budget. Of course, we were happy to oblige and play host to their program.
The Army hired the Mauch Chunk Ballroom and me, the space planner, to put together their requirements for the two sessions they planned on having that day; the AM Session for 100 soldiers from one local company and their families as well as a PM session from a second local company. Both companies will be deploying out-of-country (or down range, as they referred to it) and away from their families for the next year.
If you are not familiar, the Army National Guard Yellow Ribbon Program provides support to soldiers and their families who are being deployed. The program starts with a pre-deployment orientation that goes over with the soldiers and their families what to expect, what benefits are available to them, as well as what resources they have to turn to for support during their family members deployment. They provide other orientations throughout the deployment, concluding with their re-integration seminar to help them get back into their lives here in the United States.
I must say, it was a pleasure having them. I have to comment on how polite and extremely helpful U.S Soldiers are. Throughout the entire event as I was lifting, placing items, emptying trash cans , there was always a soldier asking if they could give me a hand. What an amazing group of men and woman who are about to make a huge sacrifice to keep our country safe. It was a pleasure to serve them and I hope they will consider the Mauch Chunk Ballroom again for their needs in the future.
And to the spouses, girlfriends and children that will miss them, you too make huge sacrifices for our nations safety! I and the Mauch Chunk Ballroom thank you for your service.
